Around the School

September
We hope you all have a wonderful, exciting and restful summer. We will see you all on September 7 when school resumes for a new year.

The first day of school Grade 1 to 5 students will attend. Students will go to a teacher with the others in the same grade. New students come to the office and weÕll direct you to your class. We will have an early dismissal at 10:00am when the teachers will meet to make final decisions about class placement. It's best to keep your class supplies at home until Wednesday when the children will know which class they will be in. We'll have coffee and muffins for parents on Tuesday morning so everyone can get acquainted. Please plan to stay and visit.

Grade Teacher Room
1 Sarah Kerrigan 214
2 Mary Freeman 215
3 Linda Burgess 212
4 Robyn Huntley 210
5 Jim Lightfoot 216

On Wednesday morning students will go to the same classroom first thing in the morning and their teachers will direct them to their new classrooms and teachers where they will be for the year.

Ms. (Voegeli) Brigden, the Kindergarten teacher will arrange home visits for the new Kindergarten children during the fist week of school. The second week half of the children will come to school Monday and the other half will come Tuesday. After that all children will be in attendance.

We sent home class supply lists in the school report cards but if you lose your copy you can download one here. Kindergarten, Primary (Grades 1-3) or Intermediate (Grades 4-5).

Busses
The busses will run beginning on the first day, September 7. They will pick up the children to go home at 10:00am, the first day only. Find school bus information and schedules here

School Theme for 2010-2011
Next year our school theme will be Forests. Forests surround us and we want our children to inherit an appreciation and knowledge of them. We will be studying trees, plants, wildlife, ecosystems and how the presence and use of forests affects our community. We want to teach respect for and preservation of the wonderful island home we share. WeÕll plan a meeting sometime early in the year to find out what collective resources we have and which parents would be available to volunteer time and expertise.

School Hours
School is in session from 8:13 to 3:00pm Recess is from 10:00 to 10:20 and lunch play time is from 12:00 until 12:40. Children eat lunch in their classroom from 12:40 to 1:00pm.

Kindergarten runs from 8:13 until 11:30. The Early Learning Family Centre (ELF) program runs from 8:30 until 11:30 for preschoolers with their parents.

lost/foundLost and Found
Each year we seem to collect piles of clothing in the hallways and playgrounds. At regular intervals it is gathered and sent to the local Thrift Stores. Please have your children check the lost and found on a regular basis.
